Episode 7: Griffin Gets an Interlude (2 of 5)

The Struggle Behind the Scenes

For Patrick MacBlain, the writing was on the wall:

“The day that Scott Coles took the role of Executive Producer on STC, the show ceased to be mine. Look, I came from nothing. I was a beet farmer, for God’s sake. And here I was making a decent living… writing television! I wasn’t going to give that up for anything.

Milt (Bradley) came from money—he didn’t give two shits whether he got fired or the show bottomed out. One thing I’ve learned from my time on the farm: you’ve got to be patient and nurturing if you’re going to grow a crop. Milt never understood that.

Sure, we fought about it. And yes, maybe I did some things I’m not proud of, but in the end I was right… and Milton Bradley knows it. That’s what pisses him off. The show would still be going today if we had stayed the course and played Space-Time for laughs.”
