When Zombies Attack! Pt. 3

Another hurdle for the facing the episode was the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. The CRTC took offense to the excessive amounts of gore in the episode and threatened to pull the episode from the CHCH TV 11 programming schedule.

Patrick MacBlain had already decided to make the zombies black and white, and at the last minute decided to take the color out of the gore as well. The absence of “real blood” was enough to keep the CRTC at bay. Scott explains:

“It was a subtle nod to the original Night of the Living Dead, but to be honest I always intended to add the color back into the blood when we released the show on VHS. Of course the show was never released on video, but hey, how was I to know that would happen?”

Thankfully more than fifteen years later, storyboard artist Dave Dwonch was able to adapt the episode and release it as it was always intended.
