Pardon the Mess . . .

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Please pardon the way the site currently looks. My experience with wordpress/comicpress is almost nil. Luckily,  I have experience with php/mysql and have done phpbb customization so the learning curve isn’t as high as it could be.  I’m still getting use to the template system that wordpress uses (seems easy enough). There are still a few questions that are lingering in my mind, but through reading I’m getting those answered.

Look at that, I jumped the gun and didn’t even introduce myself yet. I’m sure that the initial readership of this webcomic is already familiar with our man Dave( The Geek Savants ). So who is this yahoo piggy backing on Dave’s talent?  Well here’s a brief profile:

Name: Josh “The Destroyer of Many Worlds (mostly fictional)” de los Reyes
Age:
9,921 Days old.
Location:
Somewhere near Dave.
Occupation: AFCA Accountant, AFCAA credentials available upon request from the  “Almost Full-Contact Accounting Association.”
Special Skills: Riding the coat tails of talented people. Also something to do with the interwebs or something.
Hobbies: Sleeping, Eating, Amateur Thumb Twiddling,  and avid Grass Growing spectator. (Paint Drying Spectators are TOOLS!)

Hopefully that will clear up any questions you have about me. I’m sure we’ll all get along just fine. (As long as you don’t watch that wussy sport called Paint Drying!)

Have a Nice Day!
-Josh

The Pitch in 100 Words or Less

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

As I’m gearing up to start publishing the STC, I realize I haven’t ‘A’ introduced myself and ‘B’ given you the “The Pitch.”

As for me, I’m Dave Dwonch, writer/artist of indie comics like Special Education and SRG Presents: Gnome. I have a couple of projects in the works, but we’ll discuss them at a later date.

STC is, in a nutshell, a webcomic based on a fictional 90’s Canadian scifi/sitcom. I’m faithfully “recreating” the show in strip form, and will be delving into its mock history every week. It should be a hoot.

There. Ninety-seven words.

See you next week!

Happy New Year!

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Happy New Year everyone! Comic officially starts in 6 days!  I can’t wait to get the ball-a-rollin.

I guess I should give an update about the site. There has been some layout changes as well as the new store. BE Sure to check it out! Almost all of Dave’s work is available there. Check back often as more products get posted. Also, please be patient with the site. The site and its layout is an evolving thing that is always changing. This is mainly to make it easier for you guys, our readers!

Anyways, Be safe everyone and have a Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, Everybody!

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

While in previous years I’ve made it my goal to get fall down drunk by the strike of midnight, this year the wife and I spent a quiet night together playing cards with nary an alcoholic beverage in sight. Con season really took a toll on me last year, and couldn’t even stomach the idea of partying hard. What can I say, I’m getting old.

Anyway, to all the aging soldiers out there, I salute you and hope you all had a sexy & safe sprint into 2009. Hopefully that 48 year-old at the end of the bar didn’t look too busted in the morning. And if she did, well, put her on the New Years Resolution List.

Now for a little Space-Time Condo update. We’re all set to launch the webstrip next week with “Griff Goes on a Date” part 1 of 7, and we’re already getting some lovin’ on the magical internets. Barry Nugent of the insanely funny and informative podcast Geek Syndicate gave STC a shout out in the Comic News section of their site. Check it out here, and be sure to give them a listen. I listen to a LOT of popculture podcasts, and theirs is really one of the best around!

Official Launch!

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

I just wanted to welcome everyone to the official Launch of Space-Time Condominium! Hopefully you guys will enjoy the comic and the site. Be prepared for some crazy stuff; Dave told me a bit about what he has planned and it should cause a few belly laughs.

Website wise, it’s still a work in progress. I’m still tweaking layout and behind the scenes stuff. If anyone has any suggestions on improving the site please leave a comment below. I want to make this appealing to the eye and as easy to navigate as possible.

Also, I will be adding a gallery to the website. There, you will be able to find drawings, sketches, photography, and fanart. I’m not sure how the fanart submission will work yet. You will either email the picture or I’ll set up a form for you to submit. I’ll make a post later about it. If you guys want, go ahead and start getting some fanart made to get the ball rolling.

Anyways, Everyone Enjoy your Stay! And Just to leave you with a little something to look at, take a look at this wonderful forum:

Be prepared to have your eyes bleed and your brain hemmorage .

Welcome to the Condo!

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

I just wanted to drop a line and thank you all for dropping by. I’ve been anxiously awaiting this day for weeks, and I’m really excited to hear what you all think of my strip. I’ve got a lot of crazy stuff planned for the Griffins, and I hope you’ll all be along for the ride.

Before we start the party I’d like to give huge thanks to two people who helped me get this comic made.

Joshua De Los Reyes has been working tirelessly as my webmaster for about a month now, and I can honestly say that without him the site would be a goddamn fireball. On top of being my secret weapon, Josh has plans for his own webstrip. We’ve discussed some of his ideas, and he’s got some great things planned. If he puts as much effort into his projects as he has mine, he’s bound to strike gold.

Secondly, I’d like to thank the real life Patrick MacBlain. Patrick is a fellow member of Comic Geek Speak’s Comic Forums, a hub for a plethora of great comicbook podcasts. Back in August 2008, Patrick posted a thread titled, “I got a name for a thing but no name.” He threw out the name Time Space Condominium to anyone who was on the boards. After reading those three little words, I blurted out:

“How about a sitcom style comicbook about a guy who shares a condo with versions of himself from alternate realities. Hold on… that’s a pretty fucking funny idea. Dibs!”

It’s strange where you find inspiration, huh?

As a nod to his role in creating this strip, I’ve made Patrick MacBlain an integral part of the history of the show– the timid country boy who travelled to the big city armed with three words and a big dream. Hopefully I’ll be able to thank the real Patrick properly one day– with copious amounts of booze.

See you next week.

A Geek Savants Milestone!

Monday, January 12th, 2009

For those of you who are unfamiliar with me,  on top of working on Space-Time Condo and graphic novels like  SRG Presents: Gnome, I’m also one of the hosts of The Geek Savants, a popculture podcast that prides itself on its take-no-prisoners, balls-in-your-face, scumbag attitude.

We’ve been producing the show weekly (every Sunday) since March of 2007 and are rapidly approaching a milestone in our podcasting “careers.” Yep, 100 episodes. If you dig the comic and wish you could get more of my brand of humor I think you’ll really like the show. I’ve known my co-hosts since I was a wee lad, and the show was born out of our love of geek culture and the friendships we share. Not to get too sappy, but I’m really proud of what we do.

Like every anniversary episode (25, 50 and 75) we’re answering questions from our forum, as well as from personal emails (thegeeksavants@yahoo.com). The more outrageous the question, the better! So if you’re an old fan of mine or randomly stumbled on to STC and want a peek behind the curtain, I’d like to offer an invitation to be a part of the celebration.

Pixar

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

So the other Geek Savants and I were able to have an (almost) all access tour of Pixar today. Super Ugly’s friend was able to walk us through every department, giving us a peek behind the curtains to nearly every aspect of the creative process. We even got to see a scene from ‘Up,’ which looks capital A-mazing.

The animation department was easily the coolest workplace I’ve ever seen, but John Lasseter’s office made me feel like a twelve year old boy. Wall to wall toys… I could have stared, hands and face pressed to the glass walls for hours.

It was a bit of sensory overload. I’m still trying to process it all. I have to say, I’ve been humbled and inspired by the experience. The latest episode of The Geek Savants details our time at Pixar. Check it out!

“Snazzy Title” – *EDIT* – Thanks for the Support!

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Okay, I totally blanked on what I should title this post.  I guess the best title would have been potpourri. I feel a bit unfocused this morning and figured I’d just throw up a post to tell whats going on over at STC. *EDIT* Okay, this is infomerical hour!

First off, I’d like to thank everyone that has been visiting the site. I know most of you are clicking on our Ads that we’ve been running on Project Wonderful. If you’ve never heard of Project Wonderful before, it is a new way of running ads on websites. Instead of buying X amount of Impressions or Clicks, you put a bid on someone’s ad space for the day. You can bid as high as  you want for as many days as you want. Your cost can actually flucutate depending on how many other people are bidding at the time. What is sweet is that you can run a campaign that will put your ad on however many sites that meet your criteria. That is what we are currently running here at STC.

I’d like to specifically thank the sponsors that have been advertising with us that are not based on a general campaign. They actually saw our site and decided to support us. Big shout out goes to The Geek Savants. The Geeks Savants is a podcast hosted by our very own Dave Dwonch. The best way to describe them is that they are a bunch of raunchy comic book nerds. M.I.M.E.S., by Harold and Wayne,  is another supporter of us since almost the beginning. M.I.M.E.S. is basically about Mimes kicking some ass with hijinx mixed in. Subculture’s Stan and Kevin round out the supporters that have been there since the beginning. Subculture is all about fandom, nuff said.  Lastly, I want to give a special thanks to Jeff Schuetz of JefBot for his support. Jeff has no connection to STC at all. I’m not sure how he found our little webcomic, but he left us a comment and now our site has his ad. Check the guy’s comic out, its a semi auto-biographical comic about his  nerdom and acting career.

Holy Crap! This entire post has turned into one big Plug!

Now for some news, I have put up the picture galleries for everyone’s viewing. However, we don’t really have too much to show off right now. There is, however, a section for Fanart under STC. If you would like to give your hand at drawing the STC characters, please upload the picture to the site. It will email me the picture and I’ll post it up (I want to screen the pictures to take out spam and innapropriate pictures). I’ll then put it up in our fanart section and give you a nice plug (if you have a website) on the blog section.

Anyways, I think that is it!

Griffin Griffins needs your help!

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Show your support for my brand of wackiness by voting for Space-Time Condo at Top Web Comics.  It’s a quick, simple way to help get the word out on the show. The more votes we get, the more visible the comic will be on their site, so vote as often as they’ll let ya!

Thanks,

Dave
