Congrats to Super Ugly: G4’s Popculture Fanatic

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Congratulations to my Geek Savants Podcast Co-Host, Super Ugly, for winning the G4/Dark Horse Ultimate Popculture Fanatic Contest!! Of the hundreds, nay, thousands of entries, Dark Horse and G4 have crowned one of the Geek Savants as the Ultimate Popculture Fanatic. The main prize puts Ugly center stage in front of the cameras as G4’s special correspondent at Comic-Con International later this month, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Check out the video of him winning, and be sure to listen to our latest episode for more details.

San Diego is going to be fucking crazy.

Dwonch the Raunch!

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Some of you probably know that I’ve been a co-host of the popculture podcast The Geek Savants for nearly three years. Last Sunday we released The Savanties, our annual awards show, showcasing the best in popculture in 2009. Before we started recording, my co-host held up a sheet of paper full of notes and quietly said “I have commercials.”

His four mock commercials drew from some of the funnier moments from the show, and one in particular involved two of my more unhealthy vices.

I thought it was hilarious and wanted to share it with you:

Dwonch the Raunch

If you thought that gag was funny, and haven’t given TGS a try, you really owe it to yourself to give us a listen. With almost 150 episodes in our archive and more laugh out loud moments on the way, now is the perfect time to jump on board!

Heroes Con here we come!

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

This week is going to be crazy! Super Ugly and I are making our way to Charlotte, NC early Thursday morning for Heroes Con. Be sure to visit us at AA137 and AA138. We’ll be the obnoxious assholes sitting with Subculture’s Kevin Freeman.

I’ll have copies of the Space-Time Condo Limited Edition, Gnome, and Special Ed, as well as some new prints and free swag. I’ll be taking sketch requests to boot!

See you there!

Check out U.F.O. from APE Entertainment!

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

My podcast co-host, Super Ugly, and I worked on a UFO story with Subculture’s Kevin Freeman for an upcoming anthology, and starting today, it’ll be posting on their webcomics site. Go take a gander, won’t you?

And in other news, Super Ugly has launched his very own store. It’s crammed pack with all sorts of goodies– t-shirts, sketchbooks, paintings, prints and drawings. Go buy something!

Check out my Pulp Girls art cards at 5finity!

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

I’ve never been big on sketchcards, but when my Gnome publisher and partner in crime, Jason Martin, called to ask me to pitch in for his Pulp Girls set with 5finity, I couldn’t resist. I’m not quite what the street date is, but the cards are popping up on ebay:

So I’m assuming they have hit the shelves.

Anywho have fun tracking these down. If I was allowed I’d post some of my favorites, but contracts dictate that I keep the images under wraps. When I get my percentage of cards back I’ll post them here… and on ebay.

Talk at you soon,

Dave

…and back to reality.

Comic-Con was, as always, a great time. I just wanted to thank my friends and collaborators for making this one memorable. My roommates at the Real World Comic-Con: Super Ugly, Kellie Sue, Daniel Logan, Ronzorb, Tami and Jason Martin, and Dan Mendoza– you guys were all hilarious, and made the living situation fun.

All the fans, old and new– thanks for coming by the Action Lab table and supporting me and the company. You guys always invigorate me, and whenever I question why I do what I do, I only need remember weeks like this. Thank you so much.

Trickster– even more fun and inspiring than the actual convention. Hopefully this will be an annual event. Good to be able to chat with peers over good beer and better art. So inspiring.

Anywho, I don’t mean to gush, this week was just overwhelmingly positive. I even have a new project in the works that was conceived at the show. More on that soon. I’ll leave you with this photo, and let you guess as to what I did to that bust after the picture was taken.

Cheers,

Dave

Visit Guest Checks!

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

My partner in  crime, Super Ugly, has started a new site called Guest Checks, which features a slew of great artists doodling on, you guessed it… Guest Checks! Every day features a new piece, and I’m proud to be today’s featured artist.

There is so much talent on display at Guest Checks, including Super Ugly himself, Bay Area artists Cody Williams (of Yeti and Friends), Matt Ritchie, Daniel Logan (Back in the Day), and even a couple of Pixar guys!

Treat yourself and pay them a visit!
